Paul Pierre, MD, MPH

Paul Pierre is a Haitian physician and global health leader with more than a decade of experience as a clinician, health care administrator, technical advisor and academic, managing complex health care operations in Haiti, Malawi, USA, Rwanda and Sierra Leone. Dr. Pierre started his career as a clinician with the non-profit organization Partners In Health (PIH) in rural Haiti. He went on to study in France and the United States on two academic scholarships, from the European AIDS Clinical Society (EACS) in 2006 and from the Fulbright Program in 2007, respectively.  Dr. Pierre returned to PIH in Malawi as the Director of Community Programs in 2009.  Dr. Pierre led the delivery of health care and other social services at some of the largest internally displaced persons (IDP) camps after the 2010 earthquake in Haiti.  Dr. Pierre later served in a number of leadership positions at PIH, including Chief Operating Officer of the University Hospital at Mirebalais (Haiti), Interim Executive Director for PIH-Malawi (Malawi), Program Director of Leadership Development and Talent Management at PIH (Boston/USA), Strategic Advisor for the PIH project in Sierra Leone during the Ebola epidemic, and Deputy Chief Medical Officer across all the projects (Boston/USA).

Dr. Pierre earned his medical degree from the Universite d`Etat d`Haiti, received his Master of Public Health degree from the University of Arizona, and his Fellowship in Global Health from Harvard Medical School and the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.  Dr. Pierre is currently a Lecturer at UGHE and a Fellow in Global Health with the Global Health Fellows Program-II. Dr. Pierre is a Senior TB/HIV Medical Advisor at the Global Health Office at USAID in Washington D.C.
