Judy N. Khanyola

Chair, Center for Nursing and Midwifery

Judy N. Khanyola joins UGHE as the Chair of the Center for Nursing and Midwifery. Judy is a registered community health nurse/ midwife and recognized nursing leader in Africa with over 25 years’ experience in clinical nursing and education programs. She has led HIV programs and provided technical support to NGOs and the public sector, working with partners and Ministries of Health in multiple countries across East, West and Southern Africa. She has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of Eastern Africa, Baraton and a Master’s Degree in Advancing Health Care Practice from the University of Manchester in the UK. Prior to joining UGHE, Judy was the Africa Regional Nursing Advisor for ICAP at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health. Judy is currently the Africa Representative for Nursing Now, the global campaign to raise the status and profile of nurses and midwives worldwide She is a board member and East Africa Representative of AfriPEN, the Africa interprofessional education organization, working towards interprofessional education and collaborative practice in Africa. She sits on the AFREhealth Governing Council the convening body for Health Professions Education and Research in Africa and is a member of the Executive Committee of the AFREhealth NIH grant working towards transforming health professions education and research in Africa. Within AFREhealth, Judy is the Team Leader of the Interprofessional Technical Working Group. Judy is the 2019 recipient of the ANAC Global HIV Award.
