Ornella Masimbi, MD, MSc

Junior Faculty, Lecturer, Simulation Tracker

Ornella Masimbi joined the University of Global Health Equity (UGHE) in July 2019 as a Junior Faculty | Lecturer and a Simulation Tracker. She holds a Bachelor degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Rwanda, and a Master of Science in Global Health Delivery from UGHE. In her current role, Dr. Masimbi oversees operations of UGHE’s simulation center. Amongst other responsibilities, she collaborates with Basic Medical Sciences and Clinical Faculty to plan and adapt the simulation coursework to align with the medical curriculum at UGHE. She also works with the Dean of Health Sciences to develop partnerships with both local and global entities in order to expand the reach of UGHE’s simulation programs. Before she joined UGHE, Dr. Masimbi worked as a General Practitioner (GP) in two Rwandan district hospitals where she mentored and supervised medical students in their clinical rotation as well as primary healthcare providers in the adequate provision of inpatient and outpatient care. As a GP, she also collaborated with different health specialists to ensure equitable access to health care for refugees in Western province of Rwanda. She is a fervent global health advocate who seeks to improve medical education and healthcare in resources limited countries through access to advanced medical equipment and techniques.
