About Us
The Centre for Nursing and Midwifery was established in 2020 to transform the equitable education of nurses, midwives and their interprofessional counterparts. The Centre’s focus is on leadership and excellence in healthcare for the most vulnerable populations. Our work is guided through equity, contemporary evidence, sustainability, cultural humility, integrity and accompaniment of our learners and communities.
We offer Continuous Professional Development as well as accredited academic programs in Global Health Leadership, Midwifery, and nursing practice through online and face-to-face learning. Clinical courses are supported through our high fidelity simulation centre . These are delivered by full-time, visiting, and adjunct faculty drawn from Africa, Asia, Europe, North and South America. Our research focus includes education, mental health, diabetes mellitus, sexual and reproductive health and rights, and diseases of poverty.

There is a universal shortage of general and specialist nurses and midwives, worse in low-income countries and rural areas. Evidence has shown that, with the right leadership and support, the nursing and midwifery profession can support 90% of essential sexual, reproductive, maternal, and newborn health services and more than 80% of bedside care. We promote social justice by supporting the education of nurses and midwives. Hence, directly, and indirectly impacting the health labor market supply side and dynamics.
The Center for Nursing and Midwifery offers executive education and academic programs in global Nursing Leadership. The Master of Science in Global Nursing Leadership commenced in 2024. We are also an accredited Continuous Professional Education (CPD) provider offering different clinical courses and have supported the Nursing Now Challenge through leadership training.
