Health Management (HM) Option
Delivery Mode: Blended
First Semester – (August – December is delivered entirely online)
Second & Third Semesters – (January – December is delivered in person at UGHE’s Butaro Campus in Rwanda)
The Health Management option is designed to equip the next generation of healthcare delivery professionals with the interdisciplinary skills and leadership capabilities needed to address complex health challenges. This option emphasizes training professionals who will work across a diverse range of organizations, from healthcare systems and government agencies to non-profits and international bodies. By integrating core principles of health management with practical applications, the program prepares participants to navigate the evolving demands of global health delivery. A key focus of the program is the development of skills in strategic planning, program development, and management at all levels local, regional, and global.
Participants will learn how to design, implement, and evaluate health programs that deliver value to communities while ensuring sustainability and efficiency. Training will emphasize evidence-based decision-making, resource optimization, and the ability to manage diverse teams in dynamic environments. Additionally, the program will delve into project management methodologies tailored to the healthcare sector, fostering competencies in stakeholder engagement, risk assessment, and impact evaluation. Graduates will be equipped to lead initiatives that enhance healthcare delivery, strengthen health systems, and address systemic challenges, positioning them as change agents who can drive improvements in health outcomes and equity.
At the end of the program students will be able to:
- Identify and assess the factors influencing healthcare delivery.
- Apply management tools in responding to global health challenges.
- Interpret and communicate the results of relevant Management research.
- Apply fundamental analytic and investigative tools including epidemiology, biostatistics, and qualitative research methods.
- Write clear and compelling programmatic reports, funding proposals, and education materials for colleagues and for public audiences.
- Provide constructive feedback to subordinates, peers, and superiors.
- Apply systems thinking to illustrate the importance of bringing together multiple disciplines.
- Employ the principles of evidence-based implementation to translate research into practice.
