University of Global Health Equity Announces Masters in Global Nursing Leadership Program
Kigali December 15, 2023 – The University of Global Health Equity (UGHE) proudly announces the introduction of its Masters in Global Nursing Leadership (MGNL) program. This program is an initiative of the Center for Nursing and Midwifery at UGHE, and it is poised to radically change the way health care is delivered by equipping senior nurses in Africa with the essential skills in professional, political, and policy leadership.
Nurses are the backbone of health service delivery.They embody compassion, empathy, and a profound understanding of the diverse needs of patients, their families, communities and entire populations. This Masters in Global Nursing Leadership will develop them to become leaders and use their unique nursing knowledge and skills to transform healthcare in Africa.
Designed to address the ever-changing dynamics of global healthcare, the MGNL program equips students with knowledge in nursing leadership theories, advanced biostatistics, nursing informatics, epidemiology, program and project management, quality improvement, global health and social medicine equity and social justice, health economics and financing, and policy leadership.
A cornerstone of the curriculum is the 40-credit nursing leadership practicum experience, encompassing a local and regional immersion in Rwanda and beyond, ensuring students apply theory to practice.
Prof Abebe Bekele, Dean of the School of Medicine expresses, “Our aim with this Masters in Global Nursing Leadership Program is to cultivate nursing leaders who will champion change in healthcare systems, advocate for equity, and lead with resilience in an ever-evolving global context. The MGNL program represents our commitment to nurturing the next generation of global health leaders who will drive equitable approaches in their practices.”
The program is a two – year full time program and will be delivered 80% online, with one in – person convening per year.
Upon graduating, the nursing leaders will drive innovation in nursing practice, positively impacting health service delivery and improving population health in Africa.
