Cyprien Shyirambere, MD

Adjunct Assistant Professor, Department of Clinical Medicine

Dr. Cyprien Shyirambere serves as the Burera District program Director at Partners in Health/ Inshuti Mu Buzima(PIH/IMB) where he provides both clinical care and administrative leadership of PIH/IMB supported projects in Burera District/Rwanda including Butaro cancer center of excellence, the leading cancer center in the country, he oversees clinical and non clinical programs and supports the Rwanda ministry of health’s efforts to design and implement national cancer control plan and other efforts to advance cancer care in Rwanda.

He is an assistant professor in the division of clinical medicine at University of Global health delivery(UGHE), Rwanda.

He graduated from University of Rwanda with a Masters of medicine in pediatrics and child health degree and received pediatric oncology exposure from Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Boston Children’s hospital.

Before joining PIH/IMB in 2014 he was a faculty and head of postgraduate training program at Butare University teaching hospital where he participated in the training of general physicians and pediatricians in collaboration with the Human Resource for Health(HRH) program.

Dr. Cyprien has engaged in implementation science research to examine the success and challenges facing a rural resource- limited cancer program, he is a Co PI of a number of research projects.

Dr Cyprien won a best poster award as a young investigator awarded by The Society International of Pediatric Oncology(SIOP) in Toronto, Canada in 2014.
