Etienne Turikumana holds a BSc in Physical Education and Sports with Education and a Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education both from the University of Rwanda. Before joining UGHE, Etienne served at the University of Rwanda as the Career Guidance and Employability Specialist since 2019. Prior to that, he served as the Director of Student Welfare and in charge of Sports and Culture at the same University respectively from 2012 to 2019.  Etienne is an active member of various student related organizations; he is a member of the secretariat of the African University Sports Federation since 2013, Chairperson of the Association of Physical Education and Sports Teachers in Rwanda since 2019 and a member of the Gender Equality Committee of the International University Sports Federation.

Etienne is an advocate for physical activity for health and he believes that it is important for anyone to practice good health habits. He is very approachable and enjoys building long term mentee-mentor relations with the youth as he takes satisfaction from the success of young people he has mentored throughout his career.
