Louis Mujyuwisha, MD, MMED, Pediatrician

Adjunct Assistant Professor, Division of Clinical Medicine

DrMujyuwisha Louis is a consultant pediatrician, who joined Partners in Health/ Inshuti Mu Buzima(PIH/IMB) at Butaro Cancer Center of Excellence where he delivers extensive clinical care in oncology pediatric program and supports the Neonatology unit. 

Dr. Louis graduated from the University of Rwanda(UR) with a bachelor’s degree in surgery and medicine in 2007. In 2010, He was awarded a four years’ scholarship to pursue a master’s degree in Pediatrics at UR. Upon graduation, Dr. Louis was appointed as Head of Pediatric Department at Ruhengeri referral hospital. In 2017, he was promoted to Rwanda Military Hospital one of the main teaching hospitals in Rwanda. During his time at the hospital, he experienced and expanded his consultancy in pediatric intensive care (PICU), neonatal intensive care (NICU) and general pediatrics

In his academic carrier, Dr. Louis has over 7 years of experience as a clinical instructor for medical students and residents. He served as a clinical lecturer for different universities mainly the University of Rwanda; supervising, evaluating medical students as well as offering classical lectures. He is currently the internship site supervisor at Butaro hospital under/through Rwanda Ministry of Health. 

 Dr. Louis is certified as a trainer in pediatrics emergencies, he has served in different district hospitals as an instructor and mentor of pediatric and neonatology; led several onsite trainings and mentorship to the health care providers in a rural area, to sustain and implement the strategic plan of maternal neonatal and child health program objectives. He contributed a lot in addressing issues related to poor case management, unskilled staffs, delay in recognizing complications in pediatric and neonatology settings, empowering health provider staffs through Emergency Triage Assessment and Treatment (ETAT+) program thus improving pediatric and `neonatal knowledge and skills in managing emergency and critical cases. 

 In the engagement of research in pediatric and oncology fields, Dr. Louis is conducting studies as principal investigator and as a Co-PI in Oncology related studies, as well as in neonatology and pediatrics, mainly filling gaps to doing research barriers in limited resources and remote health facilities.
