April Budd received her master’s degree in health services administration from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. After completing her administrative fellowship training with the CEO of Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals, Inc. a 951-bed system in Philadelphia, she continued with the organization to apply her health management skill set serving as Director of Operations for the Department of Neurology and department head of Health Services. Throughout her career she has led numerous initiatives in medical practice management, hospital operations and human resources with the continual goal of more efficient operating practices, increased patient and employee safety, and greater diversity in personnel. As a formally trained change agent, Ms. Budd has applied the GE change acceleration process (CAP) to lead numerous hospital teams in process improvement. Most recently, she worked for the Global Health Leadership Institute at Yale University in conjunction with the Rwanda Ministry of Health as a Health Management and Leadership Mentor. In this role she collaborated with the Medical Director and senior management team of a 500+ bed teaching hospital in Kigali, Rwanda to build hospital management capacity through a focus on strategic problem solving and quality improvement. During her tenure in Rwanda, she led the team of an internationally award-winning project to improve hand hygiene through the manufacturing of alcohol-based hand sanitizer in Muhima District Hospital. In addition to her roles in global health, Ms. Budd also works with TLTsolutions, a healthcare management consulting firm based in Washington, D.C. She has developed management strategy recommendations for leadership teams looking to maximize business opportunities in the health care sector. Ms. Budd also currently works with a national association to help establish a professional development program for black healthcare executives in the US in order to contribute to increasing their representation in the most senior ranks of healthcare leadership. This program is scheduled to launch in 2017. Ms. Budd is based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and she enjoys traveling the world for work and pleasure.
