Arlene Nishimwe, MD, MSc
Junior Faculty and Lecturer
Dr. Arlene Nishimwe is a Junior Faculty member and a Lecturer in Basic Sciences at the University of Global Health Equity (UGHE). In this role, she collaborates with other faculty members in the development of the medical curriculum and course materials. She also contributes to teaching activities in the new medical program and conducts health sciences related research activities. She holds a medical degree from the University of Rwanda and a Master of Science in Global Health Delivery (MGHD) degree from UGHE.
Prior to joining UGHE, Dr. Nishimwe served as a general practitioner in a Rwandan public health facility where she mostly cared for individuals from disadvantaged communities. She also worked at private health facilities. For five years, she worked in a non-governmental organization that treats patients with obstetric fistulas, the International Organization for Women and Development (IOWD). As a global health advocate and leader, she believes that community inclusion and excellence in medical education are key factors that will improve the quality of health care delivery.
