Daniel Seifu, PhD
Associate professor and Head of Biochemistry
Daniel Seifu has been teaching Biochemistry courses for Medical, MSc and PhD students for the last two decades at the School of Medicine, Addis Ababa University. He has supervised six PhD thesis projects and over 60 MSc students. Dr. Seifu has a vast experience in developing and designing medical curricula for undergraduate medical programs with modern innovative teaching approaches. He received his PhD from Addis Ababa University in a sandwich program with the Karolinska Institutet , Sweden. He has also published over 50 original articles and book chapters in various areas of interest.
Dr. Seifu’s research focuses on investigation of natural products and their applications to treat major metabolic diseases, such as diabetes and cancer in animal models. He is also actively involved in clinical research on breast cancer and his research interest with regards to cancer is exploring new potential biomarkers of micRNA and Glycan origin . Dr. Seifu is known for his collaborative research activities. Over the years he has built several research partnerships with various well-known universities such as the MD Anderson Cancer Centre, University of Michigan (UAS) , Hokkaido University (Japan ), Karolinska Institutet (Sweden), Georgia Tech and the University of Massachusetts (USA). Daniel is committed to establishing and conducting cross-cutting research at UGHE in addition to his role in student teaching.
