Session Description:

The International Day of Women and Girls in Science was first proclaimed at the initiative of the UN in 2015 with the objective of progressing the significant role of women and girls in the development of all sciences. This initiative was also part of a larger, longer-term effort toward closing gender gaps around the world by promoting equality according to the 2030 Sustainable Developments Goals. With the COVID-19 pandemic, where millions of people were obligated to work from home for the past 2 years the issue of academic gender disparity has become more evident, especially for women with young children. When many schools across the world closed, women had to spend more of their time fulfilling domestic responsibilities, such as cleaning, cooking, engaging in childcare, and home-schooling which now took away time from their scientific work compared to their male counterparts.

Join This Dynamic Discussion

This month, the #AskProfAgnes Equity Webinar series will host a panel of prominent experts from diverse backgrounds and regions who will discuss the role and contribution of women in science, explore the challenges faced by women and girls in science around the world, determine the impact COVID-19 has had and challenges it has caused inequity and provide solutions on the way forward through the lessons learnt to disintegrate different stereotypes and discriminations made against women in science.
